Thanksgiving Eve 2011![]() 11/23/11 Today the Poodles and I went for a long walk on a new trail that we have found. Mulligan spent most of the day in the cover while Hooligan and Ruffian ran ahead to scout. Over the weekend we visited with Jamie in Pittsburgh PA when we went to my Mom's 88th birthday party! I thought we could spoil dogs, but my sister's family has taken it to a whole new level. Jamie goes everywhere with them. She is so well trained that she goes car shopping with Craig, to his barber shop, and accompanies them for walks without a leash. She guards their yard from turkeys and deer. It was great to see her and get the snuggles that only Jamie can give. We've also had exciting news from the owner of the sire for our last Hooligan litter the "Fabulous Four. " Roseann Aman let us know that "Webster", CH Ascot Eat Your Heart out OAX OAJ, has acheived his Masters in Agility in both classes. He is currently working to achieve his MACH which is the highest AKC agility title. GOOD LUCK WEBSTER! Keep us posted. Here's a photo of Hooli and Ruff on the trail today. Mulligan is somewhere in that brush to the left :-) Happy Thanksgiving to all. November 14, 2011 Congratulations to Poo'Pla's Stormin' Blue Norman of Howlynn "Norman" SHR Congratualtions to Irene Lynne, Pete Wigget and of course "Norman" on achieving their UKC Started Title and as of this writing their FIRST Seasoned pass! I am so excited for this dedicated team. Norman was a special puppy that Dana and I held on to until we could find "just" the right owners. Our wish came true in Irene and Pete. Norman's talent is promising and we're looking forward to hearing more about this exciting Hooligan puppy.Ruffian, Mulligan and Hooligan have been tracking training lately. With Dana's departure from the fabulous Poo'Pla family, our field training has been limited. However, with hope next season (spring 2012) we'll be competing again in AKC and HRC events. Ruffian has 1 Master pass and 1 Finished Pass; Hooligan needs to be tuned up for Seasoned and Senior. Both dogs have talent that is being wasted being Claudia's pets for now! But the exciting news is how good these dogs are at Tracking! Both have progressed fairly quickly. Assuming that all continues to go well, we'll hope to compete at PCA 2012 in the Tracking events. I am anxious for 2011 to be over as it hasn't been my best year. Dana moved out of the Poo'Pla pack unexpectedly in Apri 2011. Later in the summer, I suddenly lost a very dear friend, and my Standard Poodle mentor, Glenna Carlson of "Ascot." To date, Glenna bred over 80 AKC Champions. I own three Ascot champions, and of course these are the foundation for our CH Poo'Pla breeding which includes Hooligan, and Ruffian and Skye -- who all hold field titles as well. Additionally we have several field trained dogs that include Newman - A Therapy Dog, Chance - A Therapy Dog, Jimmi - Therapy Dog, and 13 others are all of the Ascot line. Glenna's keen eye and breeding planning has resulted in a line that is not just pretty, but smart as well. I miss her daily. With hope, I'll be able to keep the line going via Hooligan and Norman once things settle in 2012. If you own one of the Poo'Pla's please keep me posted. We love to hear from you and I promise, I am slowly gaining steam again and will post results and progress here. Happy Birthday to Mulligan! She's Ten Years Old![]() Our pride and joy, and first Poodle as a married couple, Mulligan celebrated her 10th birthday on January 1st. She partied like it was, well, 2011, dining on a bone and celebrating with the Pak. At 10 she is still a lot of fun and manages to stay very active. She is spoiled rotten, and we're proud of it! Happy Birthday to this very special dog. 2011 - WHAT?
Once again it has happened. Someone stole the last quarter of the year 2010! Suddenly, I wake to find that it is New Year's Day 2011, the Rosebowl Parade is on, and it's time for Pork and Sauerkraut!
The "Fab 4" puppies are long gone and living in their new homes. Each is special and with a special family. "Norman" or Poo'Pla's Stormin Norman as we call him, headed for Alabama to live with his new mom who plans on competing in hunt tests with him. ![]() "Newman" - went to Detroit to live with one of our prior owners and a Mulligan puppy called "Jimmie/" Newman and Jimmie have become friends and apparently are quite the pair. We hope that Newman will become the Therapy dog that Jimmie has become. "Ali", who has been named several names prior to hitting her final one, has gone to North Dakota/Montana where she is learning to upland hunt and be a good sister to a prior Ascot Poodle owner. She's brought here new buddy some re-discovered energy and apparently they too are having quite the time of it. Finally, but not at all last, our little girl Cha Cha, who is now "Charley" has gone off to California to live with a family that also owned a Poo'Pla Standard Poodle who was dear to our hearts, "Cosette." Charley was a special surprise for the Murphy family. She's worked her way into their hearts and we regularly recieve updates about her as well as photos. So what will 2011 bring here at the Poo'Pla Poodle house? Likely Claudia will be doing a seminar on "Starting Your Poodle In Fieldwork" this spring. Ruffian has 1 Master Pass and 1 Finished Pass as we haven't run many tests. We've been busy with work and with the puppies in the fall. But we're trying to find renewed focus in spring 2011 so with hope we'll be seeing some old friends at hunt tests and be bringing home some ribbons! Hooligan too is still training. She's worked sporadically on blinds, but we'll try to be more consistent with her training and get her out in Seasoned and Senior this spring as well. No litters planned - yet. But we'll think about it! For now we're pleased with good health and a pack full of loving Poodles, and that should make for a very good year! 2 Boys and 2 Girls born on June 28 2010!
On June 28, 2010 our girl Hooligan (CH Poo'Pla's Hooligan of Dalmore JH (WC WCX)) brought 4 beautul black puppies into the world. There were 2 girls and 2 boys. One will go to a hunting home in Montana, one will go to a prior owner, and Therapy volunteer in Detroit Michigan, and one will be a pet in a family that owned a prior Poodle.
Hooligan was bred to "Webster" CH Ascot Eat Your Heart Out AX OAJ - a dog from our line that has excellent hips. All other testing is complete and normal. The four puppies are thriving and today, August 6, 2010 they had their first swim! We are thrilled about the puppies and the joy they will bring to their new owners. ![]() ![]() Poodle Rescue in the Carolinas
I get an amazing number of requests for puppies. I am complimented by the interest and the respect for our approach to owning Standard Poodles. Many of you have written kind notes. Thank you.
Since I don't breed often, I do try to help people locate Poodles elsewhere. Right now there are many Standard Poodles with various life experiences, available from the Carolina Poodle Rescue organization. I've spent hours going through the various Poodles housed there - and I encourage anyone looking for a pet to consider rescue. There are miniature and toy Poodles available as well. Every rescue has a different story - some from neglect, yes. But others have ended up in rescue as the result of an owner who must move, has fallen ill, or has had a life changing event that prevents them from keeping their dogs. You'll be doing yourself and the Poodles a favor by visiting the site to see "who" is available. Your special companion may just be waiting to meet you! The site is http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org Technology and Poodles
I am really not at all sure how this technology and Poodles things has come together, but I am willing to give it a try.
2010 - A new year of fun
Our pack of Poodles is enjoying the winter - though we have had some snow that we hadn't planned on! Mulligan and Ruffian continue to train for Agility. And Ruffian and his sister Hooligan continue to train in the field. We're all happy and healthy and that is what is most important! While we have no exciitng news, we did all travel to Pennsylvania to Grandma's house for the holiday. Then the Poodle's went to Aunt Stacey's kennel while Mom and Dad went on a cruise to ring in the new year. January has flown by - and we need to get our training together - the Greatest Poodle Show On Earth - The PCA National Specialty - is just around the corner!
We've heard from several of our "grandkids" and enjoy the updates, photos and notes. Keep them coming! Claudia AKC Senior Hunter Title for Ruffian
We are happy to announce that Ruffian and Claudia qualified for their 4th - and therefore for their Senior Hunter Title in Ohio at the Buckeye Retriever Club. We thank the judges - Bob Reckert and Peggy Baumann for recognizing our boys strengths as a hunting companion.
It has been a wonderful 2009 for Poo'Pla Standard Poodles in the field. We have earned two Junior Hunter titles, one for Hooligan and one for Ruffian, plus we earned Ruffian's Senior Hunting Title. With hope we will come out in 2010 with Hooligan in Senior and Ruffian is Master levels. For now we hope to get into hunting season - as well as locate a farm for our family to use for more training and relaxing. Thanks to all of you who follow along and cheer for our Poodles in the field! Weekend Hunt Tests in Remington Virginia
We just returned from a weekend of Hunt Tests in Remington Virginia.
We have finisihed our 4th AKC Breed Champion and Junior Hunter, CH Poo'Pla's Hooligan of Dalmore! Hooligan achieved her JH in 4 out of 5 tries - and we are very proud of this promising girl. Her brother, CH Poo'Pla's Ruffian of Talisker JH (WC WCX) achieved his 3rd Q for the Senior Hunter and will need one more Q to title. He too is a wonderful boy and we are so very proud of them! Meanwhile, up in Connecticut, CH Poo'Pla's Lagavulin Sky achieved his WC. Sky and his owner, Richard, focus on upland hunting primarily but we are very proud of him and all that this great team has achieved! |

WHOO HOO! June 2008 is a doozy!
"Pilot" Owned by C. Krissman, LA California. Pilot is hunt training in CA so he can hunt with his owner someday soon! Meanwhile he is a great companion and the office dog. He's named after George Washington's hunting companion -- a poodle! He has his CGC already and is working with Carol to compete in Obedience. Larry just gets to love him and laugh! I just got a photo of Bam in the snow. He likes it! November 24, 2006 "Ruffian" PooPla's Ruffian of Talisker, was awarded another point going Best of Winners over the weekend. He now has 12 points and 1 major at just under 11 months old! He needs one major to achieve his Championship as a puppy! Thank you Chris, Rachel, and Claudette for keeping Ruffian fit and beautiful in the ring. November 6. 2006 Mississippi: Mulligan achieves her AKC Senior Hunter Title (SH) - HR CH Ascot Boucheron Joallerie SH CD RN WCX. ![]() Mulligan is the 2nd Champion to ever to achieve an SH. She is the 5th Standard Poodle bitch to achieve the SH title. We are SO proud of her and Kristie Wilder, Waterdog Kennels who handles Mulligan. Thanks to Kristie, and to CooBear and MishyShell for being the most dedicated Poodle Cheerleaders! Without these folks encouraging both Mulligan AND her owners we could not have made it. POODLE POWER!

second major over the weekend handled by Allan Chambers in California. She is headed home this week and will start her Obedience and Field Training joining Mom Mulligan, and brother Ruffian, in the field! Hooli is our 5th champion and our 3rd homebred champion!
Club sponsored a back to back WC WCX event weekend. It was a weekend full of fun and fellowship for a group of people that really enjoy training their Poodles to retrieve on land and water.
photos just in from Caro and Ellen Krissman, newlyweds, and owners of Pilot, the ring bearer in their recent wedding. Congratulations Caro and Ellen and of course to Pilot!
"Good Morning Claudia: Do you remember 2 years ago today? You were trying desperately to get your black puppy to the Milwaukee Airport to meet his new parents. Larry and I still have that vision of you walking from the terminal area with the Sherpa bag and that black head and paws sticking out. A vision ingrained in our minds. We were talking about it over coffee this morning and how much joy he has brought into our lives. I kept all the e-mails that we received in looking for this Poodle, and one e-mail from you talked about Bam Bam bringing the ball to you to play retrieve. I just thought I’d tell you that he still does that every morning. After we go outside and I get things in order for breakfast, he brings a ball and we play. And in the evenings, if he’s bored and I’m on the computer, a ball will go rolling across the keyboard. He’s really funny when Larry reclines back in his chair. Bam can be asleep and he will get the ball and drop it in Larry’s lap. I can be right there, but he thinks Larry should play. So Cute!
Hooligan went best of winners at Simi Valley California last weekend. We are very proud of her and are ready for her to come home. She needs a 3 point major to finish. She is muscled up and has beautiful color. We're looking forward to her becoming CH Poo'Pla's Hooligan of Dalmore and heading for the field and Obedience ring!
the guns went off -- but by the end of the morning he was doing his own retrieves in the flooded corn fields. We met some truly interesting people on this hunt, one of which was a professional hunter that travels to different places in the world and guides. He was really familiar with Hunting Poodles which was wonderful.

d Jamie completed their Rally Novice titles in Obedience with a 98 and a 97 respectively. Rally is so much fun as the handler can communicate with the dog! We had a super time and of course are ready to keep going to CD classes next.
