2 Boys and 2 Girls born on June 28 2010!

On June 28, 2010 our girl Hooligan (CH Poo'Pla's Hooligan of Dalmore JH (WC WCX)) brought 4 beautul black puppies into the world. There were 2 girls and 2 boys. One will go to a hunting home in Montana, one will go to a prior owner, and Therapy volunteer in Detroit Michigan, and one will be a pet in a family that owned a prior Poodle.

Hooligan was bred to "Webster" CH Ascot Eat Your Heart Out AX OAJ - a dog from our line that has excellent hips. All other testing is complete and normal. The four puppies are thriving and today, August 6, 2010 they had their first swim! We are thrilled about the puppies and the joy they will bring to their new owners.

Poodle Rescue in the Carolinas

I get an amazing number of requests for puppies. I am complimented by the interest and the respect for our approach to owning Standard Poodles. Many of you have written kind notes. Thank you. Since I don't breed often, I do try to help people locate Poodles elsewhere. Right now there are many Standard Poodles with various life experiences, available from the Carolina Poodle Rescue organization. I've spent hours going through the various Poodles housed there - and I encourage anyone looking for a pet to consider rescue. There are miniature and toy Poodles available as well. Every rescue has a different story - some from neglect, yes. But others have ended up in rescue as the result of an owner who must move, has fallen ill, or has had a life changing event that prevents them from keeping their dogs. 2010 - A new year of fun

Our pack of Poodles is enjoying the winter - though we have had some snow that we hadn't planned on! Mulligan and Ruffian continue to train for Agility. And Ruffian and his sister Hooligan continue to train in the field. We're all happy and healthy and that is what is most important! While we have no exciitng news, we did all travel to Pennsylvania to Grandma's house for the holiday. Then the Poodle's went to Aunt Stacey's kennel while Mom and Dad went on a cruise to ring in the new year. January has flown by - and we need to get our training together - the Greatest Poodle Show On Earth - The PCA National Specialty - is just around the corner! We've heard from several of our "grandkids" and enjoy the updates, photos and notes. Keep them coming! Claudia

AKC Senior Hunter Title for Ruffian

We are happy to announce that Ruffian and Claudia qualified for their 4th - and therefore for their Senior Hunter Title in Ohio at the Buckeye Retriever Club. We thank the judges - Bob Reckert and Peggy Baumann for recognizing our boys strengths as a hunting companion.

It has been a wonderful 2009 for Poo'Pla Standard Poodles in the field. We have earned two Junior Hunter titles, one for Hooligan and one for Ruffian, plus we earned Ruffian's Senior Hunting Title. With hope we will come out in 2010 with Hooligan in Senior and Ruffian is Master levels.

For now we hope to get into hunting season - as well as locate a farm for our family to use for more training and relaxing. Thanks to all of you who follow along and cheer for our Poodles in the field!

Weekend Hunt Tests in Remington Virginia

We just returned from a weekend of Hunt Tests in Remington Virginia.

We have finisihed our 4th AKC Breed Champion and Junior Hunter, CH Poo'Pla's Hooligan of Dalmore! Hooligan achieved her JH in 4 out of 5 tries - and we are very proud of this promising girl.

Her brother, CH Poo'Pla's Ruffian of Talisker JH (WC WCX) achieved his 3rd Q for the Senior Hunter and will need one more Q to title. He too is a wonderful boy and we are so very proud of them!

Meanwhile, up in Connecticut, CH Poo'Pla's Lagavulin Sky achieved his WC. Sky and his owner, Richard, focus on upland hunting primarily but we are very proud of him and all that this great team has achieved!

We've been negligent in posting our news!

First of all we wish everyone a happy summer. Our Poodles have been enjoying the lake and staying cool.

June was a busy month for us. I traveled to Pennsylvania to see my Mom in Pittsburgh. I took all 5 Poodles to visit. Mom really appreciated that (not so much).

While in the area we participated in 2 weekends of Hunt events. Ruffian completed his Junior Hunter title and we were very proud of his work. He also passsed his first 2 Senior Hunting Tests! We were thrilled at his performance. He continues to work this summer and we'll have him out in the tests again this fall.

Hooligan, not to be outdone by her brother, qualified in 3 of her 4 Junior Hunter tests. She was adorable and had a great time bringing back her ducks. She needs one pass for her title and we'll get that in the fall. Meanwhile she is working very hard at handling for Senior Hunter.

Mulligan, meanwhile, is having a great time training for Obedience and being the lounge lizard on the lake. She loves her bumpers and ducks.

The rest of the summer will be spent having fun and planning for the fall!

PCA 2009

It was a very good PCA 2009 for Ruffian and Mulligan. The other girls stayed home as we are hoping Ms. Alias is pregnant. Hooligan was in season and Jamie wasn't entered in anything.

Ruffian got another JH pass and also a WC pass. The weather was lovely and we had lots of fun with many poodles!

Mulligan achieved her 3rd Q and her Rally Adavanced Title in Obedience. So now to Rally Excellent and the Open Obedience classes. There will be photos coming, I promise!

Also, Alias was bred to Ruffian and we are looking forward to finding out if she is having puppies. If so it will be around June 1!

It is already March!

We can't believe it is already March! The Poo's and I have been training but not testing much. We're waiting until the fall when I can take two with me (for the price of one test!). Ruffian and Hooligan will both be out and about in the fall. Ruff should be ready for Senior - and maybe Hooligan will be too.

We expect a litter this spring if I can get my act together...

AND PCA is right around the corner. It is a busy time of year but always an exciting one!

The Poos and We just returned from a trip to my Mom's house in Pittsburgh PA. Nothing like dropping in for a visit with 5 Poodles! There really isn't much exciting going on around here. It's raining and gloomy but we're looking forward to some training this week. January 17th will bring a duck hunting trip to Hyde County NC. With hope we'll have something interesting to post and a few photos by then!

Mulligan Gets 2 Rally Advanced Obedience Passes in Winston Salem

Mulls and Claudia are just back from Winston Salem where we participated in our first Obedience trials in a long time! We really went to connect with old friends and to get motivated to start training for the ring again. I had her entered in Rally Advanced both days.

She Q'd both days and placed on Sunday so we were *very* happy. Most of all we just had FUN.

Alias is officially training to Track. And Ruff and Hooli are still in the field improving every day! The weather has been COLD but the dogs have still be running marks and having a great time.

Quietly Training

It has been quiet as far as real activity around the house, but we are definitely doing some training. Mulligan is working on her CDX (Open Obedience) elements with me at home. Hooligan and Ruffian continue to train in the field, Alias is starting tracking work and Jamie is just being Jamie!

All the pups had Turkey Necks for Thanksgiving ~ while Dana and I went to our friends house for the day. We have much to be thankful for in our home and we never forget it. Plus, we think of our Troops who are away from home and with they and their families Poodle Peace throughout the season.

First, the fall has been fabulous and Mulligan and I have enjoyed basking in her success. Last Saturday and Sunday we went Duck hunting in GA at Skeeterbranch Preserve. It was actually Mulligan's invitational duck hunt. We were joined by several friends and had a great time. Mulls did a heck of a job retrieving, and again, I think we opened some eyes regarding the talent of the Standard Poodle.

That's us on the right - yes, I hadn't donned my camo yet, and you can barely see Mulligan. But there we are. We were joined by my friends (from left to right: Lisa with black Lab, Scout; Hilary with Boytel, Budha; Michelle with black Lab, Gunner; and me with Mulligan.

The weather got really warm, but the ducks still flew and we had a super time. If you are a woman who hunts and would like to join us next year, let me know!

What next for Poo'Pla Poodles?

Fall has been fun. Recently we traveled to Sevierville Tennesse to visit other "Poodle" friends, Carol and Kevin Stone and their two poodles, Sassy and Rio. The fall leaves were spectacular and we were able to hike on the farm, as well as visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tennessee. All the dogs had a blast (only my Mulligan, Ruffian, and Jamie went as Alias and Hooligan were in season). It was good times and good friends and of course, wonderful poodles! Carol taught me some new training concepts to prepare for Mulligan and my next endeavor - the Obedience ring! We will be working on perfecting our skills for the CDX level. Neither Mulligan or I are very obedient! But we'll give it a try. Alias and Jamie are going to try a little tracking in preparation for a TD test in April. Again, we'll see how that goes. We like to work together and it's just fun to spend time with the dogs. Hooligan and Ruffian are in field training, and we're hoping to get them out in the spring at some AKC and UKC tests. It sure seems quiet around here with being home on weekends and not rushing off to hunt tests - but we're still managing to stay busy.

Mulligan and Claudia were on top of the world when they achieved their Master Hunter title at the Greater Pittsburgh Labrador Retriever Hunt Tests in Grove City Pennsylvania. What a ride it has been, and I have learned so much about patience, training practices, and working with my dog. During the last few years with Mulligan I have met wonderful people and visited some, well, interesting places! Judges awarded us the ribbon during the ceremony at the end of the day and we were on cloud nine!

Next we went out with a bang the following week in Kinston NC where we ran for our last test of the season and achieved yet another Master pass for good measure. This was a particularly special pass as we did it with many of the friends who have supported us along the way!

After getting Mulligan's MH, the Carolina Ducks, Dames and Dawgs crew had a poodle party to celebrate. This has been a wonderful group of friends that I met when I conducted a WC WCX training seminar last spring. The women and their poodles have been a real motivation and have kept me moving forward at times when I was getting frustrated. We had a SUPER time, and I thank them all for their friendships and FOOD!

The dogs had a great time playing in the lake and the people had a wonderful time eating and watching the dogs. It is a real testament to the Standard Poodle temperament that we had about 15 dogs running loose together in my yard on the lake without incident.
