Poo'Pla Standard Poodles
About Us

Why Poo'Pla? It is the combination of Poodle and Play. Poo'Pla. When our first poodle, Mulligan, was a pup, she constantly used to "puppy bow" and want to play.  So she became, Poo'Pla #1.  It just kind of stuck.
I have loved the Standard Poodle breed for more than 35 years.  I first had a Standard Poodle at the age of 5.  The dog's name was Tisha and she lived in our home, with my six sisters and parents for approximately 16 years.  Tisha joined our family the year that I went to kindergarten and she died when I graduated from college.

As an adult, it took some time convincing my "Poodlephobic" husband, Dana, to agree to our first Standard Poodle. But once Dana met the breed via Mulligan he fell in love. Now a convert, Dana, swears he will never have any breed but a Standard Poodle in the house!  Though we hunt and test with many Labrador owners, we remain loyal to the Standard Poodle breed because they are so versatile.

We are active in hunt competitions (both UKC and AKC) and conformation events. We also enjoy Obedience training and hope to do Agility on a more serious basis soon.

Occasional Puppies

We have a potential breeding planned in October 2009 - the puppies will be available in early March 2010.

We breed on a limited basis to approved stud dogs only. Our health testing includes the following:

• DNA for VwD and Color
• Thyroid Panels Annually
• CERF for Eyes
• OFA for HIPS & Elbows
• Potassium/Sodium Ratios
• Neonatal Encephalopathy
• Ultrasound for ASD (Heart Disorder)

Pups live with us in our home as pets for the first 10-12 weeks of life. During that time we begin socialization that is the foundation on which future owners can build a good all around pet or a focused conformation or performance dog.

Socialization includes:

• beginning house training
• lead training
• stack training (for conformation hopefuls)
• water (we live on a lake and encourage swimming at an early age)
• wings and live birds
• variable surfaces
• car rides
• lots and lots of love and personal play time

Pedigrees, health testing documentation and photos are available via our "Our Poodles" pages.
